Gatineau, April 12, 2007 – Jim Hewitt, President and CEO of Hewitt Equipment Limited, officially handed over a Caterpillar Skid Steer Loader worth $38,000 to an Outaouais resident Chantal Mongeon.
The handover took place during a friendly get-together at the Hewitt dealership in Hull-Gatineau.
As a contestant on the TV game show “Le Banquier,” Ms. Mongeon had mentioned that for a long time, she had wanted to buy her husband a skid steer loader to help him start up his own landscaping business. Given its 55-year history of community involvement, Hewitt Equipment Limited quickly set to work to help the young couple reach their goals.
“In life, everything happens for a reason! I signed up for “Le Banquier” hoping to help my husband achieve his dream of starting his own landscaping business. With the money, I wanted to buy him “some real equipment.” Unfortunately, I didn’t win much, and I was disappointed. So you can imagine my surprise, at the very end of the show, when they brought a skid steer loader onto the set! We are very happy and grateful to Hewitt Equipment for making André’s dream come true. I can’t thank you enough!” said Chantal Mongeon.
“It’s big construction firms that are building Highway 50 today, but these companies all started out as small businesses, just like the one Chantal and André are planning to create,” said Jim Hewitt. “I’m sure that some day, you’ll be a major contractor too!” he told the young couple and several guests in attendance.
High demand for compact equipment
Given the $11.4 billion invested in the renovation market in 2006-2007 (a 5% increase), compact equipment, such as Chantal Mongeon’s new skid steer loader, represents 40% of the business in Quebec and the market is still growing. The Outaouais region is no exception. In all four corners of the province, compact equipment, which is now the lion’s share of the heavy equipment market, is used in housing construction, landscaping, snow removal, industrial applications, forestry, and agriculture.
